Chargers vs. Seahawks: What to watch for on defense The Los Angeles Chargers first preseason game is in the books and Los Angeles Chargers T-Shirt , needless to say, it provided the team and its fans with plenty of fodder conversation. While the game was sloppy and ended in a loss, it certainly took baby steps toward providing answers, some expected and some unexpected, to a variety of training camp questions.I, for one, was very impressed with the play of Uchenna Nwosu, Geremy Davis, Artavis Scott, Russell Hansbrough and Detrez Newsome; all of whom outplayed my expectations in some way and added some intrigue to their position battles. On the flipside, the run defense didn’t look terribly improved and, to what I’m sure was the dismay of the coaching staff, Cardale Jones did little to help himself in the backup quarterback battle. With that game and some key developments under our belt, there should be no shortage of things to watch for during this weekend’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. With that in mind, it’s time to take a look at my list of What To Watch For On Defense Saturday night at StubHub.Front Seven vs. The RunThe Cardinals long runs to open the game were near carbon copies of one another at the first two levels of the defense. One defensive tackle over penetrates, the other gets washed out, a second level blocker mauls Jatavis Brown, and Denzel Perryman gets lost in traffic (either getting bowled over by the fullback or leaving his gap exposed to chase down a back-side cutback that wasn’t there, to begin with). In other words, nothing went according to plan up front.I’ll settle for baby steps in one or two of these areas after a week of practice. For starters Los Angeles Chargers Hats , I’d like to see more disciplined, more purposeful penetration from Brandon Mebane and Darius Philon as opposed to just getting upfield with no sense of where the ball is. As for the linebackers, I’d really like to see sharper, more decisive reads and, hopefully, a better feel for those big uglies at the second level.Jatavis Brown vs. Second Level BlockersI mentioned this briefly in the previous entry, but Jatavis was so bad in this aspect of his game last week that it warranted its own entry. On each of the first two long runs by David Johnson, Brown got caught thinking/peeking and never saw a pair of second level blockers (Mike Iupati and Mason Cole) before they picked him off and ran him out of the play. He was manhandled and didn’t free himself until Cole and Iupati decided to let him go.While I grant you that Jatavis isn’t the biggest or strongest linebacker on the field, you’d think a third-year player would have a feel for blockers in his area and, hopefully, be playing too quickly for them to pick him off. If that isn’t the case, and it certainly wasn’t in Arizona, he’s going to have to work on shedding those blockers before they run him out of the play. Let’s see how he handles those situations against a suspect Seattle offensive line this weekend. How Uchenna Nwosu handles misdirection and other window dressingAs impressive as Nwosu was as both a pass rusher and a run defender in his preseason debut, the second round pick displayed some vulnerability against what I like to call “window dressing.” Uchenna was too aggressive in attacking the mesh point of an RPO on one play and bit hard on Bryce Williams as he dragged underneath a bootleg on another. Both mistakes ended in receptions, with Williams reeling in a fourth-quarter touchdown pass.I’m sure the Seahawks will come to town looking to counter the speed of the Chargers defense with some RPO and misdirection plays so it will be important for Uchenna to show improved patience and discipline when he sees them. I’m sure this was a point of emphasis during practice this week. Hopefully, we’ll see some improvement.Challenge Jahleel Addae and Rayshawn Jenkins at free safetyIt’s only one game, but it certainly seems as though the coaches are preparing Derwin James to play the bulk of his snaps at his natural strong safety position. If we are, in fact, headed in that direction, it means the free safety position will more than likely come down to a choice between Jahleel Addae and Rayshawn Jenkins; neither of whom was challenged last week in Arizona.I’d like to see both players challenged deep early and often this week. I have concerns about the ability of both players to cover the ground they’ll be expected to cover in centerfield Los Angeles Chargers Hoodie , as well as the speed with which they diagnose and react to plays that far away from the ball. I’m also interested in getting a glimpse of their ball skills.Defensive Tackle RotationThe Chargers defensive tackle rotation was reasonably predictable in the preseason opener, with Brandon Mebane and Darius Philon comprising the first team, Damian Square and Corey Liuget making up the second team, and undrafted rookies Steven Richardson and Bijon Jackson making up the third team. It won’t surprise me in the least if that rotation gets shuffled a bit.For starters, I’d really like to see Steven Richardson get some snaps next to Damian Square on the second team defensive line. Square and Richardson were probably the two most effective defensive tackles on the roster regarding statistical production (38 combined snaps, four pressures, four tackles), and there is no doubt they need to get Richardson ready to contribute during Corey Liuget’s season-opening suspension. It might also be a good idea to give Damian Square some run with the first team defense. While I’m not suggesting he should start on this defense, I do think it would be wise to get him ready for a more significant role considering the fact that the 33-year old Brandon Mebane probably won’t be here next year and figures to need more frequent rests if the team expects him to make it through a full season.Brandon Facyson Working With The Second TeamBrandon Facyson had a very encouraging preseason debut while playing with the third team defense. He played 21 defensive snaps, was targeted twice without allowing a completion, excelled in bump and run coverage, and made an acrobatic interception of a tipped pass. Brandon also exhibited near perfect technique on a back-shoulder fade as he squeezed Greg Little to the sideline, leaving him no room to get both feet in before going out of bounds. He admittedly looked better than I expected. While Brandon played well, much of it came against wide receivers fighting for roster spots at the bottom of the depth chart. By bumping Facyson up to the second team defense, the team would have the opportunity to evaluate him against big-bodied receivers like Brandon Marshall and Jaron Brown, both of whom figure to contribute to the ‘Hawks’ offense this year. It would be an excellent step up in competition for a kid the team reportedly likes and give a better indication for where he should slot in on the depth chart. And that’s what I’ll be watching for on defense this weekend. I’m hyper-focused on the front seven for obvious reasons – concern over the state of the run defense and the position battles at SAM, WILL, and free safety. I’m also very curious to see how the depth charts at cornerback and defensive tackle take shape as the preseason progresses. The Kansas City Chiefs headed into training camp in late July content with a pair of veterans in Daniel Sorensen and Eric Berry as their starting safeties. Now, there's a good chance neither will start in their season opener Sunday.Sorensen broke a bone in his lower leg during training camp and had surgery about a month ago, and is starting the season on injured reserve. Berry has been dealing with a heel injury that not only kept him out most of training camp but sidelined him during practice on Wednesday. The exact nature of his injury hasn't been disclosed Youth Customized Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys , but Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder put a positive spin on it Wednesday by saying the five-time Pro Bowl selection is "getting better every day.""We'll see if he can practice and we'll just go from there," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "I want to see what he's got, if and when he does that. But then I'll make the decision, what I see there."Berry may be the only player on the entire Chiefs roster who could conceivably play without having practiced in a month. But even for him, Reid conceded, that would be asking a bit much, especially with the season opener coming on the road against Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers."If he doesn't practice today, which he's not, we go with the next man up and they roll. That's how we go," Reid said. "We're used to that here, just philosophically, at all positions."So instead of having a pair of veteran starters in Sorensen and Berry, the Chiefs are poised to start Ron Parker — who was cut by the Falcons last week and re-signed with Kansas City over the weekend — and either Eric Murray or fourth-round draft pick Armani Watts.Parker spent the past four seasons with the Chiefs before signing with Atlanta as a free agent, so he's at least familiar with defensive coordinator Bob Sutton's scheme. But he admitted it's a challenge to get up to speed in such a compressed timeframe for a division rival."I'm just preparing myself like I do any other time. Whatever the coaches ask, whatever they need," he said. "I feel like especially being in Bob's system and knowing what's going on, that's going to maximize my abilities. That's the good thing coming back to Kansas City."Parker played well his first three seasons with the Chiefs but appeared to take a step back last year, and that's part of why he was released. He said a high ankle injury sustained in training camp played a part in that, and that he's glad to begin a season healthy again. He just hopes it will be with Berry by his side."I've been playing with Eric," Parker said www.chargersfootballauthentics.com , "so I can just look over there and I don't have to say a thing. We know what each other is doing. With the other guys, we have to communicate with each other, of course. But everything is coming together."Murray has appeared in 30 games over his first two seasons, starting twice, so he at least lends a bit of experience to the defensive backfield. Watts showed flashes in the preseason — he picked off two passes in the finale against Green Bay — but hasn't been in the regular-season fire.It speaks volumes that Parker, who just rejoined the team, already has been peppered with questions by the rest of the young guys in the defensive backs room."It's difficult," he said, "but the trust those guys have in me, and the trust I have in those guys, everything will take care of itself. We'll handle our business."NOTES: WR Byron Pringle, who hurt his hamstring in the Chiefs' preseason finale and was put on IR, had an MRI exam that also revealed a hernia. Burkholder said the rookie underwent surgery Tuesday. "He has an extended recovery ahead of him, and in the meantime the hamstring will heal," Burkholder said. ... Burkholder said Sorensen continues to do rehab work in the pool, but it will be a couple more weeks before the Chiefs have a timetable for his return. "He's where he's supposed to be right now," Burkholder said. Custom Pittsburgh Steelers Jerseys

Watching the playoffs and Championship Sunday Womens Danielle Hunter Jersey , disheartened the Vikings are not playing a leading role in the proceedings, thoughts turn to what the Vikings need to do in the coming year to win Super Bowl LIV.We have talked in the past about the Vikings Super Bowl window being open- talk that has faded to a murmur as the Vikings went from 13-3 to 8-7-1.And yet the Vikings have the roster, with some very doable changes, to win the Super Bowl next season. It is helpful to have the playoffs fresh in mind to remember what is important to succeed in the playoffs, and to mesh that with what the Vikings have, and don’t have.Let’s take a look. It’s All About the TrenchesQuarterbacks are lionized in the NFL, and they are part of most of the plays we remember most - good and bad.But it’s a quarterback’s protection, or lack thereof, that allow quarterbacks to make those plays. From a defensive standpoint, when a defense is able to effectively pressure the quarterback, and the run, without having to blitz, it makes it remarkably easier for defenders in coverage. On the other hand Authentic Brett Jones Jersey , lack of pressure on a quarterback allows receivers more time to get open, and even the best defensive secondary can’t cover everyone for ever. For the Vikings, it’s been time out of mind since they’ve had a dominant offensive line. This has to be the focus and priority the entirety of the coming year.It starts by hiring a top offensive line coach, continues by acquiring at least three top players - one via free agency and two via the draft - and is completed by developing each player and the unit as a whole into a top, dominant offensive line. There is nothing more important for the Vikings front office and coaching staff. And nothing else they do will matter much if the offensive line issue is not addressed effectively. The Vikings are fortunate that this year’s interior offensive line draft class is deep, and they should be able to draft top quality interior linemen in the early rounds of he draft.Free agency for offensive linemen is not so good, but there are targets the Vikings could land that will improve their offensive line.Chief among them is center Matt Paradis, an unrestricted free agent from the Broncos. On the defensive side, the Vikings have been inconsistent generating pressure on the QB rushing only four. They also lost Sheldon Richardson to free agency. It may be worth bringing him back. But the Vikings also need to spend a top draft pick on a defensive linemen. The Vikings can go best player available between offensive line and defensive line needs in the draft, and fill their needs well.Another key part of building a dominant team in the trenches is to make hard choices with current players.Everson Griffen.Pat Elflein.Linval Joseph.Mike Remmers. Some, all, or none of these players may be starters for the Vikings next season. All of them have performed at a level last season that either brings their salary cap and/or starting status into question. The Vikings have one of the better defensive line coaches in the league in Andre Patterson, and that is a resource the Vikings need to leverage.Stephen Weatherly.Jaleel Johnson.Jalyn Holmes. Ifeadi Odenigbo.Tashawn Bower. The Vikings need a couple of these guys to step up to improve the defensive line rotation Womens Anthony Barr Jersey , and perhaps more snaps to keep starters fresh.. Weatherly took a step forward this year, and could do so again next season. The others could be ready this season to make more of an impact in rotation - like Weatherly did this past season. There are a lot of directions the Vikings could go with starters on the defensive line, and Patterson will likely be a big part of that evaluation. Were the down years of Joseph and Griffen temporary or a sign of the future? Is there somebody available to take their place? The Vikings don’t have much salary cap space, so any veteran acquisition salaries will have to be off-set but cuts to the existing roster. In terms of the draft, there is no position of greater need the Vikings need to address with their first four picks than fortifying the trenches.Third Wide ReceiverOutside of addressing needs in the trenches, the Vikings need a bona fide deep threat third wide receiver.Maybe Aldrick Robinson can be that guy.Maybe a guy like Jeff Badet could step up.Maybe the Vikings take a chance on a guy like Kevin White in free agency.Whatever the choice, it’s certainly not out of the reach for the Vikings to land a quality third receiver that can deliver when defenses focus on Thielen and Diggs.KickerAnother piece the Vikings need is a money kicker.Maybe that’s Dan Bailey.Maybe they get Robbie Gould.Or Jason Myers.Or Will Lutz. But getting a guy that can make 85%+ of their field goals and 95% of their extra points, with a viable 50-yard field goal range is essential. And getting a vet who delivers in the clutch even more so.Any one of the above could be the guy.The Vikings just need to have that guy and solidify the kicking game and make it a strength, not a weakness. It’s rare for a Super Bowl team to have an unreliable kicker. And it’s easy for the Vikings to fix this.Improve Coaching ProwessOutside of these roster moves, the Vikings need to improve their game planning and coaching prowess.Too often the Vikings get out coached, come up short with their game plan, or in developing a winning team psychology/can-do attitude. That needs to end if the Vikings are going to beat all the best teams, with the best coaching http://www.minnesotavikingsteamonline.com//stefon-diggs-jersey , to win the Super Bowl.Mike Zimmer needs to give the game planning and play calling on defense to George Edwards, but retain a head coach’s oversight authority to make changes.Zimmer needs to take a stronger role in early week game planning, a more detached role in making in-game adjustments and self-scouting, and maintaining a winning, can-do culture through multiple long seasons with changing personnel. Zimmer has seen it all, on both sides of the ball, and needs to be in better position to put that experience to good use.Being tied down with defensive play calling and game planning isn’t the best way to do that.He can also help identify what opposing defenses are doing in early-week game planning and task Gary Kubiak and Kevin Stefanski to come up with game plans to counter it.At the same time, he needs to identify what opposing teams are doing to beat the Vikings, and call for counters from his coordinators.Lastly, Zimmer has to create a sustainable mantra to maintain a winning, can-do culture that stands up to the inevitable adversity the team will face every season.Too often he’s confessed to being befuddled by a less than desired team culture - including this past season - and not knowing how to deal with it.He needs to figure that out.Whether it’s copying “just do your job” or another mantra, Zimmer needs to be ahead of the curve in this aspect of head coaching, just as in game planning and adjustments.Teaching the team how to win on the road http://www.minnesotavikingsteamonline.com/trae-waynes-jersey , win big games, win as the under-dog, win when they’re supposed to, and win even when they don’t play their best are all important aspects of this.Coordinators should be tasked beginning in the off-season with developing multiple ways to win - and beat all the known schemes and tactics. The Vikings have a roster, especially with improvements in the trenches, that doesn’t limit what they can do on either side of the ball.Mixing innovation with the tried and true should be a part of this.Overall the Vikings need to have a traditional coaching structure to improve this aspect of the team:Position coaches to teach the fundamentals well and develop players to their potential.Coordinators to design the plays, install the scheme, implement the tactics, game plan, and call the plays.Head coach to oversee it all, build team chemistry and winning culture, coordinate the game planning, self-scouting Womens Andrew Sendejo Jersey , oppo research, quality control, and game management. These are all full time jobs.Having a coach take on multiple roles is a disservice to the team, as it short changes his effectiveness in both roles.Bottom LineThe Vikings Super Bowl window remains open. The defense is there. The skill positions on offense are there.Coaching needs to improve:Offensive line; Offensive coordinator; Head coach. The Vikings simply need to fortify the trenches and have Mike Zimmer become a bona fide head coach and not a defensive coordinator that doubles as head coach. These tasks are not a bridge too far this off-season.They are expected. Danielle Hunter’s hot season has continued as he picked up All-NFL honors from the Pro Football Writers of America.Vikings.com reports that Hunter has picked up both All-NFL and All-NFC honors. According to their website, the PFWA “is the official voice of pro football writers, promoting and fighting for access to NFL personnel to best serve the public.” But this isn’t Hunter’s only award this season. He earned his first All-Pro honor, was voted to the Pro Bowl for the first time and was named as Second All-Team All Pro. On top of that, he also finished fourth in the NFL with a career high 14.5 sacks and for the second time in his career he led the Vikings in sacks. During the season he earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week after having 3.5 sacks and getting a defensive touchdown off a 32-yard fumble return. He also had 72 tackles, 51 of them were solo and had 21 tackles for a loss, which is second in the NFL.And if you miss seeing the Danielle terrorize players on the field, here is his greatest hits.

The last time the Saints and Vikings hooked up Youth Thomas Morstead Jersey , folks in Minnesota were toasting Stefon Diggs with steins of Surly, and people in Louisiana were crying in their gumbo. They get together again in prime time, a nice treat to finish off a Sunday with several intriguing matchups.New Orleans sure hopes there's no second Minneapolis Miracle."This is not a revenge game," Drew Brees insists, referring to the playoff loss in January. "It's a different season. These are new teams, even though there's a lot of similar personnel. It's a new season, new team, new mindset. So listen, it's a very good opponent that we are playing on 'Sunday Night Football' at their place. It is a tough environment (and) a tough place to play. We understand we're going to need our best game, our best execution to win."The Saints (5-1) have been doing a lot of winning since they were upset by Tampa Bay in their opener. Last week they won against a playoff-caliber team at Baltimore. Now they get the Vikings (4-2-1), who have been spotty but lead the NFC North and are 14-3 at home vs. New Orleans. The Vikings might feel equipped enough to get into a shootout with Brees, but when you listen to their coach, Mike Zimmer, who has a defensive background, he knows his side will be tested. It's uncertain if the Vikings will have end Everson Griffen available as he returns from dealing with mental issues that sidelined him for almost six weeks."I think as the game goes on, Brees gets a much better feel of what the defense is trying to do throughout the course of the ballgame with him http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/...ichael-thomas-jersey ," Zimmer says."A guy like him who has seen everything 鈥?he sees everything anyway 鈥?but he's seen so many different looks that he can kind of decipher things quickly on the move. I think that's part of it, and he's got good players, too. Michael Thomas is good, (Alvin) Kamara is good, (Mike) Ingram is good. They have a lot of good players."The weekend began Thursday night with Houston's 42-23 home victory over the Miami Dolphins. Deshaun Watson matched his career high with five touchdown passes to lead the Texans to their fifth straight victory after opening 0-3. Miami has lost two straight to drop to 4-4.Off are Dallas (3-4), Tennessee (3-4), Atlanta (3-4) and the Los Angeles Chargers (5-2).Green Bay (3-2-1) at Los Angeles Rams (7-0)Talk about shootouts, this has the makings of one.Green Bay comes off a bye, which means Aaron Rodgers is healthier and could have more targets to connect with. Still, the Packers rank fourth in passing and A-Rod has 332.8 yards passing per game and 12 touchdowns, one pick. But the Packers opened as the biggest underdog of his career. That's because the NFL's only unbeaten team has been unstoppable with the ball and pretty stingy without it.Oh yeah, the Packers don't cover particularly well in the secondary.Running back Todd Gurley leads the NFL with 88 points, 686 yards rushing, 144 carries and 956 yards from scrimmage. DE Aaron Donald co-leads with eight sacks, comes off four sacks, six tackles for loss against San Francisco.Denver (3-4) at Kansas City (6-1)The Chiefs have won six in a row in this series and Larry Warford Jersey , like the Rams, have a dynamic, versatile offense. But they also rank last in yardage allowed on defense, so Denver might not be totally overmatched.Chiefs coach Andy Reid won his 200th game last week vs. Cincinnati. Reid would tie Dan Reeves for eighth in NFL history with another victory. To get it, he will rely on second-year QB Patrick Mahomes, who leads the NFL in TD passes (22) and 25-yard-plus completions (26). He has a franchise-record six consecutive 300-yard passing games.Baltimore (4-3) at Carolina (4-2)Carolina exhibited its resilience and staying power by rallying from 17 points down in the fourth quarter at Philadelphia last week. It was the largest comeback in franchise history, and now the Panthers are home, where they've won eight straight. The challenge is huge against Baltimore, which fell at home by one point to New Orleans when Justin Tucker 鈥?only the league's career kicking leader 鈥?missed an extra point for the first time. That final-seconds miscue shouldn't camouflage that the Ravens lead the league in defense. Baltimore has allowed 101 points, lowest total through seven games since coach John Harbaugh took over in 2008. The Ravens have allowed the fewest yards (280.6 per game) and fewest points (14.4).Seattle (3-3) at Detroit (3-3)Two teams that started ugly and have begun to look a lot more attractive.Seattle has gone physical with the run game and on defense and, despite being in retooling mode, seems ready to challenge for a wild-card playoff berth. Pete Carroll's bunch protects the ball, too, with only six giveaways. The Seahawks are playing for the first time since the death of owner Paul Allen.Detroit seems to have discovered a running game: Rookie Kerryon Johnson ran for a career-high 158 yards at Miami last week. But Seattle's D is stingy on the ground.Philadelphia (3-4) vs. Jacksonville (3-4) at LondonTwo teams beginning to look ugly, particularly the Jaguars, who had locker-room discord after last week's loss to Houston that included QB Blake Bortles getting benched. Coach Doug Marrone is sticking with Bortles for now and there was a players-only meeting Monday in hopes of clearing the air. This is the sixth straight year Jacksonville is playing a home game in London.Following their collapse against Carolina Authentic Ted Ginn Jr Jersey , the Eagles probably welcomed getting far out of town. It's their first trip to London for a game. The Eagles lead the NFL in time of possession, averaging more than 33 minutes. But with Jacksonville's secondary undermanned, Carson Wentz could look to the air. He has thrown 173 consecutive passes without an interception.New England (5-2) at Buffalo (2-5), Monday nightESPN must have liked the idea of the Bills, coming off their first playoff berth since before ESPN was created 鈥?well, not quite 鈥?against Tom Brady and the Patriots.Instead, this could be a classic rout. Consider these numbers:鈥擳he Patriots are 31-4 in the past 35 meetings.鈥擝rady holds the NFL career wins record by a quarterback against one opponent with a 28-3 record.鈥擭ew England is 7-0 in night games against the Bills.鈥擳he Patriots have scored 21 or more points in the first half in each of the past four games this season to match a franchise-best streak, and the Bills have allowed 24 or more points in the first half three times.Cleveland (2-4-1) at Pittsburgh (3-2-1)Another lopsided rivalry, though this game has some cachet because the Browns tend to play the Steelers tough before losing. They tied to open the season. The Steelers come off a bye. They have won the past 14 meetings at Heinz Field; Cleveland's last victory in Pittsburgh came in October 2003. Plus, the Browns have lost 24 straight road games, two shy of the NFL record owned by the Lions (2007-10). And the Browns are 6-32-1 overall against Pittsburgh since 1999, when Cleveland re-entered the NFL.The Browns lead the NFL with 20 takeaways, but they have scored only 31 points off those turnovers.Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger is 22-2-1 all-time against the Browns and unbeaten at home. He's an Ohio native.Washington (4-2) at New York Giants (1-6)The New York tabloids already are projecting which college quarterback the Giants will draft after they finish near the bottom of the standings for a second successive season. Maybe if they had anyone who could pass protect, the conversation wouldn't be so tilted against Eli Manning, who barely has time to look downfield as he sets up to throw. In comes surprise NFC East leader Washington, which ranks fifth in defense and has one of the top candidates for Comeback Player of the Year in Adrian Peterson. The veteran has 95-plus yards rushing in four of six games.Tampa Bay (3-3) at Cincinnati (4-3)It's natural to wonder about the Bengals' psyche after Cincinnati again blew a lead at home to Pittsburgh Youth Alex Okafor Jersey , then got hammered in Kansas City. The Bengals took the second-most-lopsided loss in coach Marvin Lewis' 16 seasons with that 45-10 debacle at the Chiefs. They had only one drive longer than 50 yards and a season-low 239 yards gained.Tampa stopped a three-game skid as dramatically as possible. Chandler Catanzaro made a 59-yard FG 鈥?the longest in OT since 1974 鈥?for a 26-23 win over the Browns. The Buccaneers lead the NFL in total yards per game (449.5) and yards passing per game (364).New York Jets (3-4) at Chicago (3-3)A few weeks ago, the Bears sure were representing the city of big shoulders well, reviving talk of the Monsters of the Midway on defense, looking like a burgeoning power on offense. Then came a pair of losses and the Bears plummeted from the top of the NFC North to the bottom.Chicago led the league with 18 sacks through the first four games. The Bears have one since. Star Khalil Mack has no sacks in the past two games while being limited by an ankle injury, after getting five in the first four outings.Jets first-rounder Sam Darnold is learning how difficult a rookie QB's life can be. He's coming off his worst game as a pro with three interceptions. The No. 3 overall draft pick leads the league with 10 interceptions to go with one of the NFL's worst completion rates (56.1 percent) and passer ratings (74.3).Indianapolis (2-5) at Oakland (1-5)The teardown of the roster continues in Oakland, where Jon Gruden dealt his top receiver, Amari Cooper, to Dallas.Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck seeks his fifth straight game with at least three TD passes. Luck has 15 TDs in his past four games. Oakland is last in the league with seven sacks.Kicker Adam Vinatieri needs five points to break Morten Andersen's NFL career scoring record (2,544 points) but is plagued by an injured groin.San Francisco (1-6) at Arizona (1-6)The Cardinals have won eight of the past nine in this series, including three weeks ago.San Francisco is minus-15 in turnover margin, worst in the NFL.Arizona fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy this week, replacing him with QBs coach Byron Leftwich. Star WR Larry Fitzgerald needs 135 yards to pass Terrell Owens into second place in NFL career yards receiving.Saints release cornerback De'vante Harris The New Orleans Saints have released defensive back De'Vante Harris. The news was first reported by Nick Underhill of The Advocate, and supported by multiple sources.Check out @nick_underhill’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/...065100801?s=09Harris madethe Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2016 out of Texas A&M. He appeared in 10 games in his rookie season, starting one, and was credited with one pass breakup and a fumble recovery. Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY SportsHarris emerged from the 2017 preseason as one of the starters at cornerback entering the regular season. After New Orleans surrendered a combined 793 yards passing and six touchdowns in their first two games, Harris was benched and subsequently released. Although the team would re-sign him http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/...-ryan-ramczyk-jersey , it was mostly for special teams duty. The 25-yr. old Harris would ultimately appear in 11 games last season, mostly on special teams, and was credited with 2 passes defensed. He was brought back this offseason to compete for a spot in a young and talented New Orleans defensive backfield. He logged 11 snaps in the Saints preseason opening victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, per John Hendrix of the Canal Street Chronicles. Harris' struggles in coverage continued, however, and was flagged for two holding penalties that kept Jacksonville drives alive. https://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/...tt-sean-paytonHarris' release further opens up possibilities for the other young cornerbacks in Saints camp. The top three spots seem set, with Marshon Lattimore, Ken Crawley, and Patrick Robinson, but 2-3 remaining spots are up for grabs among P.J. Williams, Arthur Maulet, Natrell Jamerson, Justin Hardee, and Linden Stephens. Williams and Maulet look to have the early advantage with outstanding play early in camp and strong moments in the win over the Jaguars. Custom Arizona Cardinals Jerseys

The corresponding move needed to make room for new receiver Dez Bryant has been announced Youth Tyeler Davison Jersey , and receiver Cameron Meredith is headed to injured reserve. According to Head Coach Sean Payton, he’ll undergo a knee scope as he’s been dealing with swelling in the knee that was injured in August. While Payton did note that they expect him to recover fully it’s unlikely that he’ll return this year. Austin Carr had begun to receive more snaps than Meredith on gamedays and was used in more run blocking opportunities as well. He’s been held without a catch since playing against the Washington Redskins where he had 5 catches for 71 yards.Meredith’s final 2018 stateline will read as 9 receptions for 114 yards and 1 touchdown, but he did catch 90% of the passes thrown his way.In the brief glimpses the team saw of him healthy he was able to produce efficiently. Now, the team will have to wait until next year to see if he can be a long term positive impact player. The New York Giants' reconstructed offensive line will face its second consecutive stern test when the New Orleans Saints visit MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The Saints (2-1) feature one of the NFL's premier defensive ends in Cameron Jordan, who is tied for the league lead with four sacks. The primary job of blocking him will go to Chad Wheeler, a second-year tackle who went undrafted out of Southern California.Wheeler received praise from Giants coach Pat Shurmur for the way he handled Houston defensive end J.J. Watt in the Giants' 27-22 win last week. Wheeler will be making his second start in place of Ereck Flowers http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/...rron-armstead-jersey , the Giants' first-round draft pick in 2015, though Watt had three sacks in the second half. Not all of those were Wheeler's responsibility.Wheeler started five of the 11 games he played as a rookie last season, four at right tackle and one at left tackle. His approach to taking on some of the best edge rushers in the league is that of a veteran."I just have to take one moment at a time," said Wheeler. "You can't psyche yourself out. You can't be a fortune teller."Shurmur has been impressed with Wheeler's preparation."The one thing about Chad is he cares and he competes," said Shurmur. "He did a good job in the run game last week and on a lot of those pass plays he blocked really well. He helped us win the game last week."He has another great challenge. (Jordan) is a marquee pass rusher. For the most part he'll (Jordan) be lined up on the right side, so we have to do a good job of blocking him. He (Jordan) is good against the run and good against the pass."No matter what play you call he really disrupts the game."Wheeler joins center John Greco Cameron Jordan Jersey , left tackle Nate Solder, left guard Will Hernandez and right guard Patrick Omameh in the new-look offensive line."I think they did a good job just picking up the pressures, just competing, just keep fighting," quarterback Eli Manning said. "He (Wheeler) is getting tested again, but we have to help him out some. He practices hard Authentic Vonn Bell Jersey , he finishes blocks. He'll be fine."NOTES: New York placed RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) on injured reserve. ... TE Evan Engram (knee), CB Eli Apple (groin) and LB Olivier Vernon (ankle) will not play Sunday against the Saints, according to coach Pat Shurmur. ... Vernon returned to practice on a limited basis earlier in the week but did not participate Friday. "This was a fast practice with preparation for New Orleans," said Shurmur. "He's made great progress this week and he's close. He just wasn't quite ready."... B.W. Webb will move from the nickel to outside cornerback to replace Apple, with Donte Deayon and safety Michael Thomas going to the slot. . WR Cody Latimer (knee) also was ruled out. ... For the second season in a row Marcus Williams Jersey , the New Orleans Saints are going into the offseason with a solid roster that doesn’t feature many holes. The depth among the offensive line, a new number one tight end, and a consistent number 2 who can help take some of the pressure off of Michael Thomas in the receiving game are a few places the team may look to target via free agency or the NFL Draft. This years draft class has some talent at the tight end position. Although it isn’t nearly as deep as the receivers, the Saints could find a late round gem to help replace the retiring Ben Watson.Josh OliverGoing into Senior Bowl week, Oliver was the tight end I was most looking forward to watching. While he didn’t do anything special Authentic Alvin Kamara Jersey , he showed his ability to create separation at the top of his routes. His long arms help to increase his catch radius and he showed good ability at extending and catching the ball away from his body.Oliver also looked smooth in and out of his cuts for a 6’5” 246-pound tight end. He had a few drops on day one of practice, but was surer handed the later the week went on.Oliver’s blocking abilities left something to be desired, but having experience from the slot and lined up wide gives him time to develop this trait in the NFL.Foster MoreauNew Orleans native and LSU Tiger Foster Moreau was able to raise his stock this week. Impressive as a blocker, he showed good hand placement and drive when run blocking. His route running could use improvement, as he wasn’t always able to create separation during drills. He does however use his body effectively to shield the ball from defenders. He projects to be an inline tight end used in run blocking assignments and short area passes. The Saints currently have Josh Hill playing that role with the team Youth Drew Brees Jersey , so Moreau may not be the fit this team is looking for currently. Dax RaymondThe Utah St product had some question marks to check off after missing games his senior season with a broken hand, but he was able to show off some of the attributes that got him invited to the Senior Bowl. Raymond won on routes by showing smoothness in his cuts and a solid release off the line. While he isn’t a burner when it comes to speed, he can still threaten on vertical routes. Trevon WescoAn unknown to myself and many others before this week, the fullback/tight end from West Virgina impressed in Mobile. Wesco, who stands 6’3” weighing 270-pounds http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/...c-mark-ingram-jersey , is a bigger guy who shows an impressive amount of nimbleness. Much more polished a route runner than one would expect a part-time fullback to be, he showed off his ability to get open multiple times in 1 on 1 drills. His blocking ability was also on display during the game. While he could fill an interesting role in the offense, he’s not the vertical threat the Saints are used to looking for in a tight end. Rookie tight ends tend to take a little longer than other positions to develop in the NFL, so if the Saints want an immediate upgrade at the position, free agency may be the way to go.But if the Saints aren’t sold on Dan Arnold or Garrett Griffin developing Max Unger Jersey , a tight end could be a draft day target. The Cowboys list three starting offensive linemen as questionable for Thursday’s game against the Saints.Left tackle Tyron Smith, who missed last week’s game with stingers, did not practice all week. Coach Jason Garrett has called Smith a game-time decision.Right guard Zack Martin (knee) and left guard Xavier Su'a-Filo (ankle) were limited in practice all week and also are questionable. The Cowboys ruled out receiver Tavon Austin (groin), defensive lineman David Irving (ankle), linebacker Sean Lee (hamstring) and tight end Geoff Swaim (wrist).Defensive tackle Maliek Collins (knee) is questionable.Defesnive end Taco Charlton (shoulder) and receiver Allen Hurns (thumb) are expected to play. The Saints listed only one player on its status report: They ruled out left tackle Terron Armstead (pectoral). Armstead will miss his third consecutive game. Custom Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys

The Chiefs traded Alex Smith and made Patrick Mahomes their starting quarterback this offseason and it’s hard to ask for a better first outing in his new job than the one Mahomes put together against the Chargers on Sunday.Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill for a 58-yard touchdown on his third pass of the game Authentic Tyrell Williams Jersey , threw for three more scores over the course of the afternoon and the Chiefs opened the year with a 38-28 road win over a divisional rival. Hill said Mahomes was “very comfortable” and “very confident” in the huddle while head coach Andy Reid’s assessment focused on other positives.“He made plays, and he did it with his legs, he did it with throwing, he did it with checks,” Reid said, via ESPN.com. “I have a lot of respect for [Chargers defensive coordinator] Gus Bradley and his defense. He threw a few things at Mahomes. He got him a few times. But I thought Pat did a nice job of handling it against an experienced and very good defensive coordinator. He’s a unique kid. He’s got to keep working here. He’s just at the beginning of this thing. We’ve got to keep moving forward, taking steps forward.”Travis Kelce only had one catch and the Chiefs never got Kareem Hunt on track, so there are things to work on in the weeks to come. Given how much the Chiefs were able to do without big contributions from those players, there will likely be some sleepless nights for opposing defensive coordinators in the weeks to come. The Los Angeles Chargers will win against the Kansas City Chiefs Chargers Football is back! For the last three years, I’ve predicted the Chargers to finish with a 10-6 record. In the first two of those, they made it to 9 wins. Combined. However, a 9-7 record last year after an 0-4 start lends a lot of reasons to be optimistic, and we’re feeding into that optimism with three reasons the Chargers will beat the Chiefs on Sunday:#1: The Chiefs defense is a big weaknessHere’s the Kansas City Chiefs depth chart heading into the season opener:All offseason http://www.sandiegochargersteamonline.com//desmond-king-jersey , people have been ridiculing the Chiefs defense, using their perceived weakness as a way to drive home their point. If I had a dollar for every time I heard “the Chiefs may need to score 35 points just to stay in a game this year!” I’d be able to buy the damn team myself.Point is: This is a bad, bad defense. There are a few exceptions: Xavier Williams is excellent against the run, Chris Jones has the potential to make life difficult for opposing teams, and Kendall Fuller is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the league. Realistically, however, this is one of the weakest defenses the Chargers will play all year, if not the weakest. There’s a whole lot of replacement level talent starting, and not a lot of... well, genuine talent. Eric Berry is one of the best safeties in the league when he plays, but he hasn’t practised all week with a heel injury, and isn’t expected to suit up for this one.The Chiefs defense were bad last year, but with the loss of Marcus Peters (and I understand why they traded him) www.sandiegochargersteamonline.com , they’re looking like taking another step backwards. That’s great news for a Chargers team hoping to snap a four year losing streak against Kansas City on Sunday.#2: The Chiefs CBs vs Chargers WRsThe Chiefs do have one genuinely talented CB, as Kendall Fuller (as aforementioned) is one of the best slot CBs in the league. However, it’s rumoured that the Chiefs are going to look to use him outside this year, rather than just exclusively in the slot. With that in mind, I think it’s possible that Bob Sutton might use Kendall Fuller to shadow Keenan Allen this week, with #13 looking set to play a mixture of slot and outside WR this season. Shadowing the opposing #1 isn’t usually Bob Sutton’s style - he kept Marcus Peters on one side of the field, rather than match him up specifically - but when the other two starting CBs on the Chiefs are Steven Nelson and Orlando Scandrick, he may have his hand forced. If Allen draws Nelson or Scandrick for most of the day, he could easily grab 15 passes for 150 and a couple of TDs. There are very few CBs capable of going one-on-one with Keenan Allen, and Steven Nelson and Orlando Scandrick are nowhere near.Even if Fuller is able to erase Allen for most of the day - and, spoiler alert, he won’t be - Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams have to like their chances against two mediocre, smaller CBs (Nelson is listed at a generous 5’11 and Scandrick at a probably accurate 5’10).Philip Rivers was awful against the Chiefs last year Los Angeles Chargers T-Shirt , but Marcus Peters was the root cause of that. Without Peters to torment Rivers, he should be in line for a big day come Sunday.#3: Patrick Mahomes is still getting used to the NFLSigh...It’s begun. If you aren’t sure of the context, I guess it would be fair to say I was fairly high on Patrick Mahomes coming out of Texas Tech. Then the worst happened, and I didn’t want to accept fate:Unfortunately, that wasn’t a dream. Mahomes really is a Chief, and he’s just been given the keys to the franchise. I (unsurprisingly) think he’s going to be really good - probably a Hall of Famer by the time he hangs up his cleats - and I don’t foresee the terrible start for Mahomes this year that other analysts may do (but I wouldn’t, would I?)If there was a good time to play Mahomes, however, Week 1 in his first ‘meaningful’ NFL action is pretty perfect. There’s naturally going to be some nerves, and it’s going to take some time for him to fully click with Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce in a real game, despite the highlights you’ve seen from preseason. It’s hard to know whether Mahomes is going to come out slinging like only he can, or whether he’s going to keep things safe in an attempt to ease himself into the game and the NFL in general. Regardless of what the plan is early on Los Angeles Chargers Hats , the Chiefs are likely going to need some big plays from Mahomes at some point with the state of their defense, and that means he’s going to have to take some chances.Mahomes was superb in college at taking chances, but at this level the defenders are smarter, quicker, and better. Joey Bosa might be out, but Melvin Ingram is still there to rush the passer, and Casey Hayward, Trevor Williams and Desmond King aren’t going to make life easy for the Chiefs WRs downfield. Mahomes is going to (hopefully) take some time to learn what he can no longer get away with at this level, and the Chargers are lucky enough to be the team that get to teach him first. I hope Mahomes has a notebook ready. Custom Tennessee Titans Jerseys

1: Any time a starting QB goes down Womens Austin Ekeler Jersey , it’s a huge blow for the team. How well was Dalton playing before the injury, and how has Jeff Driskel looked since taking over. Is there any chance (even slim) of a quarterback controversy next year?Dalton started off the season extremely hot. He had all his weapons around him including Tyler Eifert, A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and John Ross. The Bengals offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, who officially took over this offseason, had even reworked Cincinnati’s offense from the ground up for the first time since Jay Gruden took over in 2011. However, his play dropped off after that Womens Darius Philon Jersey , and it hard to blame Dalton entirely for that. It depends on who you ask if there will be a quarterback controversy. The one thing that is for sure is that it won’t be with Jeff Driskel. It will be a matter of if the Bengals decide to draft a quarterback early. As someone who thinks Dalton is a capable quarterback in the NFL, it feels like Dalton and the Bengals could benefit from a fresh start. Although, it would be shocking for the team to move on from Dalton if Marvin Lewis is still the coach.2: The Bengals had such a promising start to the season, but are currently on a four game losing streak. What was working at the beginning of the season that has stopped working lately, and what’s gone wrong for the Bengals since then?To an outsider, the instant answer would be injuries, which do play a part. However Authentic Casey Hayward Jersey , for the Bengals to have been competitive this season they would have needed to stay pretty much 100 percent healthy. That just isn’t a reasonable expectation. This team looks like it is poorly coached. Players aren’t being used correctly at times, we keep seeing the same players struggle week after week without a thought of trying to mix things up and the general depth of the team is just poor. The short of it is Mike Brown and Lewis don’t know how to run an NFL team in 2018.3: Marvin Lewis. Is the end of this season finally the end of his reign in Cincinnati, and do you want it to be?After the team re-signed him last season, I’m not going to hold my breathe on him getting fired. A far more likely scenario is that he’d decide to retire or walk away himself. At this point I think Mike Brown is the only person who is content with Lewis as the head coach. Any other organization would have fired after the Browns loss (or years ago).4: With AJ Green on IR, some other WRs are going to need to step up. Tyler Boyd has had a fantastic year, but who else should we be looking out for on Sunday? Is it John Ross’ time to shine?John Ross has shown flashes of being a capable wide receiver. It just doesn’t appear this team knows how to use him. It feels like they treat him mostly like a deep threat decoy, but Ross is capable of running a full route tree. Honestly Womens Derwin James Jersey , aside from Boyd the Chargers won’t have much to worry about from the receiver position. Auden Tate should be active with Green out, and he is a big bodied receiver, but he is still learning how to play the position in the NFL.5: I have to ask, just for my own curiosity. How is Vontaze Burfict viewed by Bengals fans? Do you see him as a talented player who just needs to rein it in at times, or do you see it as anything more nefarious? Before this season, he was seen as a talented guy who liked to toe the line. He has crossed it a few times with the ankle twisting and things of that nature. However, a lot of what the national media blows some of his stuff up just because it is Burfict. This year he has looked like a shell of himself. We don’t know if it is still him dealing with his hip injury Joe Barksdale Jersey , but he just looks two steps slower than he ever has. I don’t think fans would be that upset to see him go at this point. He isn’t a bad guy to have on your team though.Bonus Question (if you’re up for it!): Could we get a score prediction? You can expect very little resistance from this Cincinnati team. They can’t move the ball on offense or stop anyone on defense. Chargers 41 Bengals 13. Sunday’s game in Seattle was the 200th straight start of Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers‘ career and there was no sign that the veteran’s enthusiasm for the game is waning.Wide receiver Keenan Allen said after the 25-17 win that Rivers is always hyped for games, but that he was “real hyped” for the matchup with the Seahawks. Rivers agreed with that assessment and pointed to the surroundings as the reason why he tapped into a deeper well of energy.“I was fired up,” Rivers said, via the team’s website. “I was fired up for many reasons. Some personal, some just excited. I love playing here, and this is probably my last shot playing here. It’s exciting when you play in this kind of atmosphere and this environment. I think it was exciting to come out and see how many Charger fans were here. I was fired up. You like going against great defenses, especially guys like Bobby Wagner Womens Mike Pouncey Jersey , K.J. Wright; guys that you’ve seen multiple times [that] you respect from afar. It’s just fun.”There’s been fun all over the map for the Chargers, who have won their last three games in Cleveland, London and Seattle. They’ve won five straight overall and head to Oakland next weekend to try to extend that streak against the hapless Raiders before home games against the Broncos and Cardinals. It’s a schedule that offers a good chance to keep the wins coming, which would both keep pressure on the Chiefs in the AFC West and further reason for Rivers to be excited about coming to work. www.nflshopoutlet.com/jacksonville-jaguars

2018 Patriots roster cuts: New England releases former second-round pick Cyrus Jones The New England Patriots have a rather deep cornerback group behind roster locks Stephon Gilmore Elandon Roberts Jersey , Eric Rowe and second-round draft pick Duke Dawson. A pair of rookies are the reason for that: both J.C. Jackson and Keion Crossen have looked good over the course of the summer and have legitimate shots at making the team – at the expense of a once highly-drafted cornerback.According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, New England has parted ways with Cyrus Jones:Cyrus Jones was selected with the 60th pick of the 2016 NFL draft, but failed to make a positive impact early on during his career. He struggled as a punt and kickoff returner and failed to establish himself as a member of the Patriots’ cornerback rotation as well. Jones looked better during the 2017 preseason but tore his ACL and was subsequently placed on season-ending injured reserve. He tried a comeback this year, but started training camp on the physically unable to perform list. While he did come off the list and appeared in New England’s final two preseason contests as both a cornerback and punt returner, Jones apparently was unable to beat out the other options at the positions. And while could still stay in New England via the practice squad Shaq Mason Jersey , his status as a former second-round draft pick could lead to teams trying to claim him on the waiver wire. The Patriots have been at their best on offense this season when they've established the run and avoided facing a significant number of third downs.Achieving success in both areas could be difficult on Sunday against a Vikings team that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is expecting to offer "as big a challenge as we're going to have all year."The Vikings are the NFL's stingiest defense on third down, allowing opposing offenses to convert on a league-low 28 percent of their opportunities. They are also allowing only 94 rushing yards per game, which is tied for the fourth-fewest in the NFL.One of the reasons, McDaniels said, is Minnesota's ability to mix up its personnel and coverages. That is bolstered with talented players that are spread throughout its defense."They have a great front Cheap Stephen Gostkowski Jersey , they have linebackers that are very athletic, the team speed in general is tremendous," McDaniels said. "You're not going to outrun this group."The Patriots are 1-3 this season when converting on less than 33 percent of their third downs. The lone exception was their 27-20 season-opening win over the Texans. The Patriots went just 4 of 14 on third down (29 percent) in that game, but were able to take advantage of some early Houston mistakes in jumping out to a 24-6 lead.New England can't count on that against Minnesota. The Vikings' offense has been turnover-prone at times this season, but Minnesota enters Sunday's matchup with a plus-2 turnover margin overall. The Vikings were turnover-free in last week's win over Green Bay. It was their first game since their Week 7 road victory over the Jets in which they didn't have a giveaway.New England has had to adjust offensively in recent weeks as it played through the injury-related absences of its leading rusher Sony Michel (knee) and tight end Rob Gronkowski (ankle Cheap Malcom Brown Jersey , back), one of Brady's favorite options on third down. Both were effective in their returns to the starting lineup against the Jets. Gronkowski caught his first touchdown pass since Week 1 and Michel rushed for a season-best 133 yards."They are one of the best teams at running the ball in the red zone and one of the best teams at stopping the run in the red zone," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said."When you can run the ball in the red zone that typically leads to touchdowns because you don't get in third-and-longs and things like that where you've got to throw in a condensed area."The Patriots are also hopeful that the return of Rex Burkhead from injured reserve will ultimately provide a boost similar to those provided by Michel and Gronkowski. Burkhead was one of New England's go-to options in short-yardage situations last season. But he played only three games before suffering a neck injury against the Lions on Sept. 23. His status for Sunday is to be determined. While Burkhead's absence hasn't affected the Patriots' ability to score touchdowns in the red zone (24 TDs on 38 drives inside the 20), center David Andrews said they recognize room for improvement."(The Vikings have) got a great defensive front, I think they play really hard http://www.patriotscheapshops.com/...ephon-gilmore-jersey , big, tough guys in there," Andrews said. "I don't know what the game plan is going to be yet, but whatever it is, we just have to execute it Cheap Joe Thuney Jersey , do whatever we can up front to be at our best and be the most physical team."AP Pro Football Writer Dave Campbell in Eagan, Minnesota, contributed to this report.

Rod Rust Cheap Tom Brady Jersey , who coached Hall of Fame defensive lineman "Mean" Joe Greene at North Texas and later served as defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots' 1985 Super Bowl team, has died. He was 90.The Patriots announced Rust's death Wednesday. He died Tuesday at his home in Ocean City, New Jersey, according to family friend Bobby April.Rust spent more than four decades as a football coach, mostly as a defensive coordinator in the NFL with Kansas City, New England, Pittsburgh, the New York Giants and Atlanta. He spent one season as an NFL head coach with a Patriots team that went 1-15 in 1990. He also held several coaching jobs in the CFL.He began his coaching career at the college level, serving as an assistant with New Mexico and Stanford in the early 1960s before landing his first head coaching job at North Texas in 1967. Rust moved to the CFL with Montreal in 1973 and took his first NFL job as linebackers coach with Philadelphia in 1976 under then-new head coach Dick Vermeil.Rust left the Eagles to become the Chiefs' defensive coordinator in 1978 and then took over the same post with the Patriots in 1983. Three seasons later, he was part of the first Super Bowl team in Patriots history. That New England team had defeated Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino's Dolphins in the AFC title game in Miami before falling to the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl 20 in New Orleans. When the New England Patriots hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in week six of the regular season, both offenses were spectacular while the two teams’ defenses still made the occasional big play. One of the biggest plays of the 43-40 contest, however http://www.patriotscheapshops.com/...c-adam-butler-jersey , was made in neither of the two phases but rather the oft-forgotten third: the kicking game.Following a Patriots field goal early in the fourth quarter that gave the team a 30-26 lead, Chiefs returnman Tremon Smith ran the ensuing kickoff back 97 yards to the New England 3-yard line. Three plays later, Kansas City was in the end zone to take its first lead of the day. And while it ultimately would not last, Smith’s return still proved to be one of the biggest momentum swings in the game. With the two teams set to meet again on Sunday with the AFC title on the line, once more the focus is mostly on offense and defense. The Patriots and Chiefs field two of the best offensive units in football, while their defenses have come a long way since their week six bout that saw a combined 83 points and 946 yards of offense. However, special teams might again play a pivotal role when it is all said and done.“It is a key phase of the game,” said Patriots special teams ace Albert McClellan when talking about the importance of the kicking game earlier this week. “A lot of people always say that punting is the most important play of the game since so many people have their hands on the ball. It’s great to get noticed, but at the same time we are a unit, so once one person gets noticed the whole unit gets noticed.”McClellan will be a big player for the Patriots on Sunday — one that was not with the team when it first played the Chiefs: the veteran, who was named the best special teamer in the NFL by advanced analytics website Pro Football Focus, was only added to the team in early November after his release from the Baltimore Ravens. He appeared in eight games for New England since then http://www.patriotscheapshops.com/...-trey-flowers-jersey , playing roughly two thirds of special teams snaps.Together with fellow mid-season acquisition Ramon Humber, McClellan helped stabilize the Patriots’ previously inconsistent kick coverage units — something that is not lost on special teams captain Matthew Slater. “All I remember from going back to my notes from when we played Kansas City was writing down that we’re not very good in the kicking game,” said Slater earlier this week. “I certainly haven’t forgotten how we played against these guys. It was terrible, so we’re going to try and avoid a repeat of that.”“I think that we’ve certainly made strides throughout the course of the season. It’s been great to have [Albert McClellan] come in and really help us, Ramon [Humber] come in and help us,” Slater continued. “Two steady veterans that really understand how to play this game. They’ve brought a lot of balance to our game and what we do and I think we have made strides, but we’re going to find out whether we’ve made enough strides here come Sunday night.”McClellan also knows that the Patriots, as opposed to week six, need to be on top of their special teams game on Sunday. “They got some home run hitters. You’ve got to be disciplined. You’ve got to be laser-focused,” the 32-year old said. “Everything comes into play: your assignment, your technique, communicating everything. It’s not just one person Cheap Julian Edelman Jersey , it’s not just one thing — it’s combining everything and hopefully your formula is better than theirs.”Through their first 17 games, the Chiefs’ formula is serving them well on both kickoffs and punts: both primary returnmen are posting some very good numbers with speedster Tyreek Hill running back punts and the aforementioned Smith usually responsible for kickoffs. Hill is averaging 8.8 yards on his 25 punt returns, and also scored a touchdown on opening day, while Smith is gaining 26.4 yards per kickoff runback (886 yards on 33 returns).New England’s returners are no slouches either, though. Punt returner Julian Edelman is gaining an average of 7.6 yards since returning to the team in week five. Meanwhile, kickoff returner Cordarrelle Patterson is still one of the NFL’s primary weapons in the returngame: the 27-year old is running kickoffs back for an average of 28.6 yards and also has a week seven touchdown on his r茅sum茅.While the battle between the Patriots’ and Chiefs’ offenses and defenses takes center stage leading up to the AFC Championship Game, it might very well be a kicking game play to make the difference. Three months removed from their debacle in week six, New England appears to be better prepared to handle it this time around.

What went wrong? Let us count the ways:The offensive line gave up four sacks, but it was much worse than that number would indicate. Kirk Cousins was harassed on dozens of dropbacks. Jerry Hughes might have to file taxes in the state of Minnesota next year because he basically established a homestead in the Vikings’ backfield. Four fumbles, including two first quarter strip sacks of Kirk Cousins that led directly to ten points for the Bills. Conversely, the defense didn’t force a turnover despite the Bills fumbling three times themselves. The Vikings had a paltry 14 yards rushing on Sunday, which was the third lowest output in franchise history. They only attempted four designed rushes, since two of the runs were Cousins scrambles. The six rushing attempts tied an NFL record for fewest in a single game. That’ll happen when you’re inexplicably down by a ton of points from the start. The Vikings were just the sixth team in NFL history to lose outright after being favored by 16.5 points or more. The Vikings didn’t take a snap in Buffalo territory until there was 9:32 remaining in the third quarter. That was only because they started there after a Bills penalty on a punt. That drive lasted all of two plays before Cousins was intercepted. The Vikings didn’t actually gain a yard in Buffalo territory for the first 45 minutes and 54 seconds of the game.We could go on and on and on, but I’m sure you get the point by now. The Vikings were such a no-show on Sunday that it felt like Tony Soprano appointed them jobs at a construction site. Whether they were caught looking ahead at the game this Thursday in Los Angeles or simply didn’t take the Bills seriously until it was too late, the end result was one of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory. The game unfolded a lot like we thought it would, only with the roles reversed. Before we wallow any deeper into self-pity, let’s take our weekly look back at the five biggest plays that led to the big, bad Buffalo blunder.Play 1: Bills ball http://www.thevikingsfootballauthentic.com/...son-jersey-authentic , 3rd & 4 at the Buffalo 31. First quarter, 14:18 remaining. (Shotgun) J.Allen sacked at BUF 24 for -7 yards (E.Wilson). PENALTY on MIN-L.Joseph, Lowering the Head to Initiate Contact, 15 yards, enforced at BUF 31 - No Play.It looked like the Vikings were going to start the game off right when Eric Wilson came through with a sack to force a three-and-out on the opening drive.Wilson blitzed right up the middle to sack Josh Allen with a perfect form tackle. But a flag went flying. Oh no, were they really going to call roughing the passer on Wilson? Was the slow transformation to two-hand touch pro football really happening again? It turns out that the penalty was valid. Linval Joseph lowered his helmet into Allen’s after Wilson already had him wrapped up, which kept the drive alive. After getting new life from the penalty, the Bills didn’t face another third down as they marched seven more plays down the field for a touchdown. The penalty was an omen for how badly things would go for the Vikings and it gave the Bills the confidence they needed to pull off the upset.Play 2: Vikings ball, 3rd & 8 at the Minnesota 27. First quarter, 6:04 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins sacked at MIN 19 for -8 yards (J.Hughes). FUMBLES (J.Hughes) [J.Hughes], RECOVERED by BUF-M.Milano at MIN 25. M.Milano to MIN 25 for no gain (M.Remmers).Answering a touchdown by your opponent with a fumble on the third play of your opening drive is bad. Answering ten points by your opponent with a fumble on the third play of your second drive? That’s really bad. And that’s exactly what the Vikings did.In what would be a theme throughout the day, Jerry Hughes breezed passed Riley Reiff around the edge with a speed rush to pressure Cousins. Hughes ended up with fifteen pressures on Sunday according to NFL Next Gen Stats—that’s the highest total in the past three seasons. This was Buffalo’s second strip sack in six plays. Matt Milano recovered, and once again Buffalo was in prime position to score early in the game. They did so just two plays later, thanks to one of the easier touchdowns you’ll see scored in the NFL this season.Play 3: Bills ball Womens Brett Jones Jersey , 2nd & 11 at the Minnesota 26. First quarter, 5:15 remaining. J.Allen pass deep right to J.Croom for 26 yards, TOUCHDOWN.The Vikings defense held firm after the first turnover to hold the Bills to a Stephen Hauschka field goal. After the second turnover? Not so much.Allen faked a swing pass to Marcus Murphy, and Eric Kendricks and Mike Hughes bit hard. (Hughes had an really rough game yesterday, especially after being called upon to play outside corner when Trae Waynes went down.) Jason Croom waltzed into the end zone behind the blown coverage and suddenly it was 17-0 Bills less than ten minutes into the game. The rout was officially on.Play 4: Vikings ball, 3rd & 5 at the Minnesota 44. First quarter, 3:13 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass incomplete deep left to A.Thielen.The offensive line was awful yesterday and Cousins shouldn’t shoulder all of the blame for the offensive woes. But this throw, on third down, with a perfect pocket, when his team desperately needed a big play, was incredibly disheartening.Cousins was amazing down the stretch in Green Bay and was an integral part of the comeback last week. So seeing passes like this is even more perplexing since we know what he is capable of in pressure situations. The Vikings were forced to punt after this bad miss to Adam Thielen, and you’ll never guess what happened next.OK, you’ll probably guess since you watched the game yesterday. But seriously, I did not see this next play coming when it happened live.Play 5: Bills ball http://www.thevikingsfootballauthentic.com/...ers-jersey-authentic , 3rd & 9 at the Buffalo 36. First quarter, 2:05 remaining. (Shotgun) J.Allen scrambles up the middle to BUF 46 for 10 yards (S.Weatherly; A.Barr).“Getting posterized” is a term usually reserved for NBA players that get ferociously dunked on. But I think we can use it in this case for Anthony Barr.Josh Allen looked like he was going to be stopped short on third down until he hurdled over Barr to get a first down. I know gifs don’t have sound, but I swear if you listen closely you can hear R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” in the background. The play was a perfect microcosm of how the Bills embarrassed the Vikings in just about every way imaginable on Sunday. Eight plays later, Allen reached the ball over the goal line on fourth down and the game was effectively over well before halftime. It’s very unusual that all five “game-changing” plays were pulled from the first quarter, but that’s the kind of game it was. The second half was largely both teams playing out the string; the Bills were able to get super conservative and sit on their huge lead while the Vikings tried in vain to make it interesting. Again, it was how many people saw the game unfolding, just in reverse.Hopefully this home beatdown at the hands of a team that was previously considered to be one of the worst teams in the NFL will serve as a wake-up call rather than a signal of what’s to come for the Vikings. There is no time to feel sorry for themselves, because up next is a short week for a road game against a team that’s considered to be one of the best teams in the NFL—the Los Angeles Rams. After that, it’s off to Philadelphia and The House That 38-7 Built. If the Vikings can’t clean up their act and get better in a hurry, they could easily have a 1-3-1 record before their next home game.As always, we welcome you to vote in the poll to tell us which play you thought was the biggest and encourage you to suggest any we may have missed in the comments.Or you can just pretend that Sunday never happened and focus on how the Vikings can try to avoid a similar throttling in front of a national audience on Thursday night. We’ll understand.
